I am filing this formal complaint to address the unfortunate circumstances surrounding our recent flight booking from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport (CCU) to Male, scheduled for September **, ****, through Indigo Airlines. The purpose of this complaint, which is to be made publicly, is to highlight the issues we encountered and the resulting mental and financial distress due to the circumstances.

Incident and Victimization

On the scheduled departure date, September **, ****, our family faced an unexpected and severe medical emergency. One of our travelers was diagnosed with Dengue fever, leading to immediate hospitalization. This unforeseen crisis placed immense emotional and financial strain on our family.

Missed Flight and Financial Impact

As a consequence of the medical emergency, we were unable to board our flight from CCU to Male. To ensure we could support our family member during hospitalization, we urgently canceled our return ticket from Male to CCU, which had been booked through Flipkart. Unfortunately, this cancellation resulted in the imposition of substantial penalty charges.

The financial burden arising from these penalty charges, coupled with the cost of medical treatment and the extended stay in the Maldives, has caused significant financial hardship to our family.

Request for Fair Resolution

Given the exceptional and distressing circumstances we faced, we seek the intervention of the online consumer forum to address our grievances:

Waiver of Penalty Charges: We respectfully request that the relevant airline authorities, particularly Indigo Airlines, reevaluate and waive the penalty charges associated with the cancellation of our return tickets. We firmly believe that the gravity of our situation warrants compassionate consideration.

Refund for the Unused Ticket: In light of our inability to use the return ticket from Male to CCU due to the medical emergency, we request a full refund for this portion of our booking.

Call for an Exceptional Cases Policy: We propose the implementation of an "exceptional cases policy" within the airline and travel booking industry to address unforeseen medical emergencies. Such a policy would ensure a more empathetic and responsive approach to travelers facing similar situations.

We hope that this formal complaint serves to raise awareness of the challenges and hardships faced by travelers during medical emergencies and calls for a fair and compassionate resolution to our situation.
