I booked a rental cab (sedan) through Uber. The cab came after considerable time, as against the time shown on the app.
The car was not in a good shape and was unclean. However, since I had to attend a few important client meetings in Delhi NCR region, I boarded the car. After a minute, I requested the driver to roll up the windows and turn on the AC. He said that "AC was not functioning and we can manage as weather was good." I insisted so he finally confirmed that AC was defective. I asked him to stop the cab and requested him to cancel the ride.
As expected, he moved away with the car but did not cancel. I cancelled the car. I tried booking another cab through Uber but that was also too far so I had to cancel that. I accordingly made other arrangements and had to struggle to reach places and manage my clients.
Uber, despite, knowing all these transactions, chose to charge me instead of calling up and checking and possibly apologizing for deficiency in service and harassment.
Instead, they cooly charged and despite raising the issue, never responded to my issues but kept on sending a standard response.
After some persuasion, they refunded some part of the fare (around **%) as if they were doing charity on me. After several follow up and mails, they refunded the balance. At no stage, they responded to my questions on what a customer should do in case of defective cars and breach of contract. They have done this in the past also.
They need to come out openly and say what a customer should do in such a situation. Why a customer should be harassed and need to spend so much time to get to this stage.
Unless they are made to pay for harassment and breach of contract, they will continue this behaviour and their driver-partner will continue to take riders for a "free ride".
Hence I demand a public apology and compensation so as to deter them from resorting to such practice.
