I booked my honeymoon package for greece and paid half of the amount (₹******) in first week of April. Makemytrip visa team got in touch with me with list of documents to be submitted. I started preparing the required documents including bank statements, and affidavits from both of our parents as we were appearing for visa appointment before wedding. Got all the documents verified by the makemytrip visa team (Rubi was the POC). Me and my then fiancee (now wife) appeared for the visa appointment and submitted documents on April **st. Total silence from GVCW (agency that takes documents for tourist visa and sends it to greek embassy for further processing) and the greek embassy. The next installment of payment to MMT was due on **th may. I was really worried as there was no communication about visa processing, was really skeptical to pay the remaining half amount. Got in touch with my MakeMyTrip relationship manager (my poc for this booking) Ruchi and cried about this - that i didnt want to pay the rest as I am worried. She insisted I paid the full amount as visa will be processed - she said she knows people got greek visa recently who booked with MMT. I asked for extension if possible, she denied straight and asked me to pay or else she said the full booking would be cancelled. I paid as I was worried about loosing the already paid amount in case visa gets approved and bookings are cancelled.
Approx around **th of June, got my passport back with visa refusal letter with a reason: “The information submitted regarding the justification for the purpose and conditions of the intended stay was not reliable”. The documents related to booking of flights and hotels were all provided by Makemytrip. All of these documents were verified by Makemytrip visa team. Still got this refusal.
I called the airline (Indigo) with the reason - they mentioned that booking can be cancelled and I can get around ₹***** refund. Similarly I called all the hotels and they confirmed that they would refund the amount as the reason is genuine and they don’t have a problem to refund as this was almost **days before the trip dates. All the other bookings were fully refundable as I checked the policies on individual products/service/experience websites.
I got in touch with MMT visa team, they asked me to send the refusal letter over an email which I did. After that I got in touch with my RO (Ruchi) - she was copied in my email. After many attempts she picked up the call and said that okay I will process the cancellation - I told about the airline and hotel refunds - to which she said if that is the case I should have no problem getting my money back less some cancellation penalty.
I got email from Indigo that booking has been cancelled and refund amount is approx ₹*****.
After this Ruchi stopped responding to my whatsapp messages and stopped picking up my calls.
On July **th Ruchi responds to my whatsapp ping and says there is no refund.
I am feeling like I am scammed. MMT made me pay fully, they processed bookings, told me what documents to submit for visa - they got the refunds but I have to face big financial loss for no reason. I am not sure how I can even measure my mental trauma. This was supposed to be my honeymoon trip and it ends like this. How can makemytrip keep all this refund money?
