- Met with an accident due to negligence of MakeMyTrip Open
I had booked a cab from MakeMyTrip (MMT) from Pune to Mumbai airport on ** April with booking ID NC***************. I received an SMS with the details of the cab and driver. The cab was Hyundai XCent MH**CP**** and driver's name was Sarjerao Gosavi. I paid Rs *** to MMT at the time of booking and the rest of the amount was to be paid to the driver after completion of the journey. The vehicle arrived around *:** am at my home. The driver stopped at a petrol pump to fill fuel and asked me to pay Rs **** for the same. The driver was driving fast and was not even reducing the speed at speed breakers due to which we experienced an uncomfortable ride. I asked the driver to lower the speed so that he can control the vehicle.
When we reached Wakad, the cab was driving at speed of ***+ KM per hour and a truck was in front of the cab probably driving at **-** KM per hour speed. The driver was not able to control the cab and bumped into the truck from behind. The impact of the collision was such that my son (who was sleeping) was thrown on the dashboard from the back seat. His right knee got injured with the seat belt on the driver's side and he started bleeding. My wife and I also got injured. My wife was in shock from the incident for almost * weeks. I had multiple ligament tears in the left hand, while my wife had injuries in her foot. The cab was badly damaged and the driver was not able to start the cab again. We were lucky to escape with minor injuries as there was no other vehicle behind us at that time, otherwise, I could not have been alive to narrate this incident. We came out of the vehicle and sat on the side of the road. I asked the driver to give me a first aid kit so that I can try to stop my son's bleeding. He said he was not carrying any first aid kit in the cab.
I asked the driver to inform MMT and ask them to arrange for an alternate cab so that I can reach Mumbai on time to catch my flight. He said he will inform Sarjerao and ask him to inform MMT. I was surprised to hear this and asked him who he was. He said he came in place of Sarjerao Gosavi. He started making a few calls and told me that another vehicle will come in **-** min. I waited for around * hour and there was no vehicle. When I enquired again, he said it may time and I should book another cab on my own. I was worried about my son's injury and hence booked Uber and left from the spot. Uber driver offered me first aid kit and I used that to stop my son's bleeding. On my way to Mumbai airport, I called MMT customer care and informed them about the incident and asked them to check how come the driver did not come himself and sent someone else in his place. The person that came was probably not a qualified driver due to which I and my family had to suffer. I explained to the customer care what actually happened and asked them for a refund. Raj informed me that he has raised a complaint in MMT system and my reference number is ******-******. Raj called me back after a few minutes and informed me that they have approved a refund of Rs *** against Rs **** paid by me. When I enquired why only Rs *** refunded, I was told because the cab dropped me halfway through. I and my family were in pain and in a hurry to reach Mumbai airport, hence I told him I will respond to him once I reach the destination.
I replied to the email from Raj and informed him that I was not happy with the insensitivity of MMT staff and the way they came up with Rs *** refund amount. I further told him that I will not share my bank details with him and I asked him to escalate the issue to his management.
I received a call from Amar Saxena on *th May and he asked me to explain in detail about the accident. While I was updating him, we got disconnected. Later Amar sent an email to me stating that he has closed the ticket with reference number ******-****** and he has created a new ticket with reference number ******-******. I sent multiple responses to both the tickets, but I did not receive any response back from MMT customer service team.
Then I started sending messages to @makemytripcare and @deepkalra (Group CEO of MMT) on Twitter. I received the first response from @makemytripcare on **th May asking for the booking ID, which I provided. Then they told me that Amar Saxena was assigned to my ticket and they have arranged for a call back to me. I did not receive any call from MMT and hence I responded back. Again they told me that they have arranged a call back for me from a specialized team. I received the same response on **th, **th, **th, **nd, and **th May. However, I have not received a single email or call from the MMT team.
I am frustrated with MMTs behaviour and want their management to be held responsible for playing with the lives of the people. I demand a full refund for the cab, along with compensation for the air tickets that I had booked with MMT for my vacation which I was not able to enjoy due to injury and pain. I also want them to compensate me for all the medical expenses of my family. I also want them to pay a penalty for negligence and putting my family in danger by sending an unqualified person with the cab. I and my wife are still struggling with injuries even after * weeks and it may take a few more weeks before we are fine again.
I have tried to reach out to MMT over the last month through multiple mediums and multiple times, but MMT is not ready to accept their mistake. Hence, I am forced to go legally now.
