Gotogate - Cancellation of flight by Malaysian Airlines booked through Gotogate

Dear consumer forum,
I planned my trip to travel from Delhi to Taipei via Malaysian Airline and connecting flight of Eva Airline. I received notification from Malaysian airlines two days after booking that my flight has been canceled and it was a connecting flight booked through the Gotogate portal. I reached out to the portal for rescheduling of the flight, however, they are saying the airline will not refund the amount. If the airline has canceled the flight isn't it responsibility of the airline to refund the amount even for the connecting flight because I won't be able to catch the flight.
I have been chasing airlines as well as gotogate but they aren't responding properly over email and their customer service number is very difficult to reach out.
I need some assistance and assurance from your end since I am traveling for educational purposes. I have to inform University beforehand and I am rebooking the flight. But I have no information about what will happen to the INR **k that I have spent to book the flight.

I would appreciate a fast response and assistance. I have been mailing the portal for assistance but haven't been updated yet regarding the progress.
