Hi,
I am from Bangalore. I took a vehicle (Honda Activa) on rent for a month in December **** through Drivezy. I used to extend the ride every month at the end of the trip. At the time of availing their services I was in my final semester of college. In March ****, i extended my ride for an another month which gave me the date for returning the vehicle as **th April,****. But due to the rise in COVID-**, the college was shut down and we were told to vacate the hostels as quickly as possible and leave immediately. Soon the lockdown was imposed and i returned to my hometown leaving the vehicle unattended in my college itself. I have had the vehicle lying in the college campus for around a year now as i couldnt go back and return it. Also, i had to join my workplace at so i moved there in November and started working. In the meanwhile i did not receive any updates or communication from Drivezy's end regarding the vehicle whatsoever. I received a call on **/**/**** in the afternoon from the legal team of Drivezy. Without even confirming the status and whereabouts of the vehicle, the person started accusing me of stealing the vehicle and threatened me of giving my details to the nearest police station and they would file an FIR for theft. I assured him that the i still have the vehicle and they could send anyone to get it. But he was adamant on filing a criminal case against me, threatening me that I would lose my job and jailed for the same. But then he asked me for a settlement for which i enquired about and he said that the settlement would cost around Rs. *,**,***/-. But then the amount was lowered to **,***/- and i was told that i have to pay the settlement amount by * pm on the same day I received the call (i.e., **/**/****) or they would initiate the criminal case. On inquiring about why I haven't been able to receive any communication from their end, he rebuked me stating that they tried sending me mails and contacted through calls on all my contacts but I am sure of it that i received no communication from their end. I asked them to give me some time to be able to pay the amount.

I wanted to know what i could do to avoid paying such a big settlement amount. I feel this to be some sort of harassment to extort this big amount of money. Apart from this I feel like I have been mentally traumatized by the threats and abuses that were hurdled against me for asking such an exorbitant amount without any prior intimation. I am in no condition to pay this large amount.
