I had purchased the MacBook Pro *TB*P **** model on **th April ****. This was working fine until on **th August **** when the MacBook display suddenly stopped working. The problem was when I open the laptop display past vertical the display screen goes black. In order to use it I need to close it and then open the display screen slowly. But after it passes ~** degree the laptop display screen goes black. However the system is powering on.
When I contacted the Apple Care Phone Support they have tried all the NVRAM & SMC recommended fixes but it did not work so they have asked me to visit an Apple Authorised Service Centre recommended by them suspecting this could be a hardware issue.
Upon this I have visited the Apple Authorised Service centre at Reliance Retail Limited -Ghansoli , Shop No * Bhoomi Oscar, Plot No ** & **, Sector *, ******, Thane Maharashtra, India. They have checked the system and asked me to deposit the same by paying Rs. **** so that they can check the issue.
In the mean time, I have also checked in the internet to find out what the problem could be and found that there are several similar complains all around the world for this particular model manufactured by Apple for some technical issue of Display Backlight.
Apple has also acknowledges this problem for this particular model ( MacBook Pro (**-inch, ****, Two Thunderbolt * Ports) model and offers free services to this particular effected model.
When I have showed this particular service program to the Authorised Service centre personal, he has informed me that they will have to seek for an approval from Apple Quality program to qualify this particular free of service replacement of the Display. He also informed me that since there are cracks on the display Bezel so they will have to check with Apple Quality Personal for approval of the same. After one week since I had submitted the Apple for repair, the Apple Service Centre personal calls me and tells me that this will not be qualified under the service program as there is a crack in the display bezel.
This problem for MacBook Pro *TB*P **** is a known issue through out world and I believe this laptop of mine (MacBook Pro *TB*P **** ) is affected by the same issue.
The small crack ( scratches as per me ) on the display bezel has been a normal wear and tear issue and it has been there on the MacBook pro from the time I had purchased it and has never been an issue as the Macbook pro was running quite normal.
There are many countries around world like EU and US are protected by consumer laws and Apple has to repair these free of cost due to their own manufacturing fault.
I have contacted Apple Care Phone Support and tried to convince them at my best that the problem which I believe due to manufacturing fault but there has been no support so far.
I feel that I have been cheated as I am forced out to pay for the repairing for the problem which Apple themselves acknowledges the quality issue by Apple.
While the consumers are protected in other countries like in US or EU, we at India is exposed to such issues and consumers in India are not protected since they do not voice their opinion for protecting their rights. I want to try all necessary legal options that I have to protect my consumer rights and to highlight how consumers are exposed to risk by the giant corporation in country like India.
