Apollo Hospital, Secunderabad has left me scarred from trusting any Healthcare system. I went there for a treatment concerning urinary stricture. A small surgical procedure was recommended and they said my insurance would cover it. I have done this same surgery with them twice before. But this time, everything went wrong.
Unsafe conditions: the semi-sharing room I had taken had a few cockaroaches running around in the bed. Next day morning when I complained to the admin, she laughed and asked was it a small one? She did say she'll get it sprayed, but I was leaving anyways and the harrowing night had already passed.
Visiting doctor attitude: This was plain insulting, when the duty doctor Ravi walked in with * of his juniors, he asked me which company I worked for and what was my salary. He asked me if I fell in the * lakh bracket, when I said no. His attitude changed a bit. I told him I had trouble sleeping and my neck was hurting. He said this isn't your home. You'll have to adjust.
Cleaners & Security: Almost all the cleaners who had come and including the security who manned the ICU collects money as tips. It was shameful that they took money from my guest who came to visit me before the surgery.
Botched Surgery: Some of the nurses there were inexperienced, they couldnt find my vien and i had to be pierced * six times... I could let that pass. But the anesthetist who appeared before the Surgery Dr. ASHOK, he couldn't get the attention of the distracted staff and ended up piercing my spine twice to administer the anesthetic. ** to ** hours, after the surgery, I started to have pain in the neck, lower back and base of the head. I had succumbed to a spinal headache. I couldn't stand for more than few seconds without the excruciating pain. Before the check out I complained only to be first insulted by Dr. ASHOK. and then I decided to leave the hospital with some advice and medication from the surgeon. They asked me to come back if the pain didn't subside in a few days. After the *rd day I went back to the hospital emergency room, informed the surgeon. He called for the anesthetist. By this time I verified about spinal headache and just came in for advice. The anesthetist, Dr. Ashok blamed me for trying to getup too soon after an anesthetic, saying, which is why the headache was caused.
It's been * days since the surgery and I still am not completely out of the spinal headache.
Though the original surgery for urinary stricture seems to be ok now, I fear I may also have other complications in the future.
This hospital has to answer for thier negligence, miscommunication, poor administration, terrible hygiene and thier insult to Healthcare.
