I represent a registered business in Nagpur(India), recently we got an opportunity to start a new vertical i.e. export service.
We selected Plastic Hangers, Neck Tie and Suit Bags as commodity to export from India.
To fulfill this operation we approached FedEx to become our shipment partner. They appointed an account manager Mr. Ashish Jangade (Reportee to Nitesh Srivastav). Ashish assisted us in getting our account created with FedEx after due course of *-* weeks of long proceedings. Before we on-boarded we disclosed our chosen commodity to be shipped because we had already secured an order for *** Hangers, *** Suit Bags and *** Ties from London. We asked the pricing methodology to our account manager, he said it would be weight based. He also shared a rate card which was quite complicated to understand. We wanted Ashish to explain, and he assisted us to find the zone wise weight wise discount given in the row. That did not have rates but only discount percentage.
Once our consignment was ready we asked Ashish to share an estimate. He said, you will receive an Invoice post delivery. We insisted to have estimate because the shipment cost was supposed to be borne by our client and he wanted us to share the shipping cost details in different mode. (Regular/Priority).
Ashish said, Regular service is not available now a days, due to COVID situation. Everything is going through international priority freight carrier only.
We asked estimate but neither he had it not he mentioned anything about volumetric weight.
Then we checked FedEx website to get the estimated through shipping charges calculator. Because our client wanted us to ship only if the cost falls under budget. We check the calculation on website and it was way beyond our assumptions. It was around ******/- (approx.)
We reported this to Ashish Jangade immediately and asked clarification. After a couple of attempts he agreed to give us the estimate but that too on telephonic call only. It looked a fishy but we had no choice as he was an appointed account manager on behalf of FedEx for us.
What he said was quite convincing because he took us through the rate card which was indicating around **% ~ **% discount for a weight of **-**. We calculated with the discount percentage given in the rate card and the discount was approximately *****/-. Which gave us an high-level estimate of approximately **k.
We had to select the packaging box dimensions, we asked our account manager Ashish Jangde about it, he suggested standard dimensions, we bought boxes and packaging material from local market. While we were packaging the goods, we realised if we pack it tight, it can be adjusted in * boxes but there would be a little risk of damage to few of hangers.
We brought this to notice of Ashish Jangade, he again misleaded us and asked us to increase the box count. We asked precisely about the deviation in cost of shipment, if we increase the box. He said, that will be calculated based on weight only. Even if you increase a box, weight wouldn't change much. So there won't be any additional cost for extra box too.
We raised a shipping request via customer contact number and asked them to share estimate (because they take needful detail of the consignment such as, count of boxes, dimensions of boxes etc.). Even they did not provide us any estimate everyone was purposely hiding the calculation method.
Picking guys came to pick our consignment, without weighing scale, we gave them approximate Weightage of the consignment, still they did not give any estimate. What has been told is, you will get an estimate once it reaches hub. We chased our account manager to have a precise estimate once the consignment was picked. He did not respond for a month.
We shipped by relying on the words of FedEx rep and later we received an invoice which was * time higher than the given estimate. The value of invoice raised was ******.** INR
We raised dispute, initially with Ashish Jangde. at the first instance, he was also surprised and he raised a dispute on calculation method with their billing team.
The reason was - (*) they did not calculate our consignment on actual weight, rather they calculated on volumetric weight, which was deliberately kept hidden from us by all the channels we tried to get the estimates.
(*) Offered discount in our rate card, was also not applied to our invoice..
Billing department is not giving us any reasonable justification for the high price. They are just keeping themselves away from our reach and the people those who are talking to us, they are also not cooperating and harassing us and warning us for legal consequences.
The attempt to associate with FedEx started in Jan **** and we shipped our consignment in last week of Feb and we Received invoice in April, which was dated **th March.
Everything was too lazy and unreliable and we are fed up of such unprofessional treatment by FedEx.
We want to file a case against FedEx for Cheat, Abuse, Harrasment, Misleading Consumer, Excess Billing and Unprofessional Treatment.
Kindly suggest the steps to be taken.
