Hi,
I, MVO, a Victim in subjected matter, would like to register a complaint against a person posed as Rahul Chandekar on Bharat Matrimony site.
With intention of finding a good match, I had opened a profile on Bharat Matrimony. I came across Rahul’s profile and his details were matching my preferences of life partner, hence, I sent my interest. I received positive response and he contacted me through a chat asking for WhatsApp number to get to know each other. As I hadn’t taken the membership of the matrimony site and as his profile was matching my preferences, I shared my contact number.
Rahul contacted me over WhatsApp from +** *** *** **** and we got to talking. Shared basic details. He also shared his photos and biodata. He informed me he was based in UK and is willing to shift to India permanently to honour his dead father’s last wish. He mentioned his parents had a love marriage which their families didn’t agree to. Therefore, they settled in UK. However, in **** his father passed away due to cancer and before his mourning, he asked Rahul to buy a house in India. He also informed me about his past relationship and how his ex cheated on him. He informed about his sister who got married from Bharat Matrimony and how he had opened account on matrimony site as per his sister’s wishes.
About his career, Rahul mentioned he has masters from Sheffield Hallam University and has made himself a good name in construction industry. His company name was mentioned as B&H construction.
Rahul does not have any social media profile as suggested by his psychologist as he was badly suffering from his past relationship - claimed by Rahul.
Rahul swayed me up with sweet talks during one week. We spoke on chats and calls and he posed as someone very much interested in making a life with me. He used to share his photos which were definitely not from Indian location. As our thoughts met, I never felt this guy could be a fraud. I fell prey to his tactics as I was genuinely looking for a life partner and he portrayed himself as a man that I was looking for.
After a week of talking, he mentioned his mother was hospitalised and needed a surgery. His sister, Priyanka, was taking care of her. Simultaneously, his company got a huge contract in Canada and being a project lead he has to go to Toronto for * weeks. As Rahul was planning to move to India in March, he decided to directly move to India once his Canada project was over. Hence, he took the luggage as per guidelines to Canada and rest he sent to India through Global express courier. He had given storage facility address in Mumbai as delivery location for his belongings’ safe keeping - Everything as claimed by Rahul.
He shared my name and number as recipient as he didn’t know anyone in India. I was okay as he mentioned he has paid the courier charges and I won’t be bothered with anything else. He had shared tracking link and ID with me. As I could track the details and this site seemed to be genuine, I didn’t think I would be scammed.
Link shared by him: https://global-xpres.com/track-form/
Tracking ID given by him: GL*****EXP
After this, once luggage reached Delhi airport, I received a call from Pooja Sharma (+** ***** *****) asking to pay custom duty of INR *****. When I asked Rahul about the charges, he said he will ask his sister to pay. His sister, conveniently, had a joint account with her husband and she couldn’t make the payment without his approval since her husband was offshore. Meanwhile, Rahul started having tremendous headaches. Next day, he informed me he has been admitted to hospital and is under doctor’s supervision as his health deteriorated terribly. I had initially denied paying the money. However, on humanitarian grounds, I decided to help him and paid the custom duty charges. Pooja had sheared the bank account details with me.
Message as received from Pooja is mentioned below:
Bank-IDBI bank..Name-Aman tudu..A/c number-****************.. Ifsc code-IBKL*******..Branch-Delhi..Pay *****..
Rahul had sent a photo from hospital and his voice notes were enough for me to believe the guy. Hence, I made the initial payment on February **, ****.
Later, Pooja called and informed courier facility has found a large sum of money in the luggage and I would have to pay insurance amount of INR ****** which is further refundable post luggage is delivered at the recipient location. Again, after discussing with Rahul and because of his deteriorating health and as he had captured my emotions, without thinking twice, I decided to help the guy. Another factor helping my decision was amount was refundable. I took a loan on high interest rate and made the payment on February **, ****. After making the payment, Pooja again called me saying cash that Rahul had hidden in luggage is amounting to nearly ** lakhs and I would have to pay more *.** Lakhs plus GST to safely deliver the luggage at delivery location.
I was furious at that time and understood my mistake. I googled Rahul Chandekar Bharat Matrimony to check if I can find any details or something to clear my doubt. I found a complaint registered on voxya - name and story was same. Found another article with same content/name & story. I got frustrated and contacted Rahul. Tried connecting on video call but he denied. I told him I’m not paying anymore amount. He said he will take care of luggage once he comes down to India. He also shared * receipts of the earlier payments that I had done which I later found out to be fake.
I, a simple girl, who wanted to get married with a nice guy has fallen prey of a scam and lost a huge sum of money - total INR ****** (*****+******) plus the high interest that I would have to pay on the loan. I am middle class girl, living on pay check to pay check. Please help me.
Please find out the culprits and help me get my money back. Let me know if I can help in any way possible.
Regards,
MVO
