Reasons for the problems in medical deliveries
After India became independent, a significant improvement can be seen in the health of its citizens. But according to WHO, the situation is not better.
Here are some significant problems that occur in the health services in India-
1. Rural population has been neglected
Major issues arise when we neglect rural masses. For example, according to a health survey, only 31.5% hospitals and 16% beds for the 75% rural population. Also, the doctors were unwilling to treat the rural masses.
2. Culture method getting more focus
India is dependent on imported western goods. It has hardly any roots connected with the rural tradition and culture. All the major hospitals are located in urban areas. Rural areas have been completely neglected over the past decades.
3. Shortage of medical people
There is a significant shortage of medical personnel in India. As a result, there are insufficient dispensaries and hospitals in the rural areas to treat the overall population. The same conditions are valid in sub-urban areas.
4. Medical research
We need to grow our medical research. The focus should be on the production of drugs, vaccines to cure common diseases at least. The Government must allocate more funds or more portion of the GDP for the medical sector.
5. Expensive health service
Most of the medicines available in India are allopathic. These allopathic medicines are pretty expensive for an ordinary man. With an increase in inflation, these drugs are getting costlier day by day. Ayurveda and homoeopathy are cheaper than allopathic but takes more time to heal a human wound. Also, hi-fi hospitals charge more for operations and surgeries, which is a very high price for an ordinary man.
How can these be resolved?
If you have a medical delivery issue from the hospital side, make sure to follow these steps-
1) Reach Medical Council of India
A person or a party can file their complaint to the concerned State Medical Council without any hesitation. If the issues are made from the doctor’s side, they have the power to suspend or cancel the registration of a doctor. However, it shall be kept in mind that the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 does not allow them to make compensation against the victimized party.
The accused must state all the facts correctly in front of the council of the concerned matter. The committee shall then be given 30 days so that they can provide a reply for the same. If the response is unsatisfactory, the council shall call upon both parties to present evidence supporting their claims.
2) File a case under criminal liability
Any doctor or authority responsible for causing threats to human life shall be punished with a life sentence or fined according to the Indian Penal Code 1860. However, in a matter of negligence, where a criminal case takes place, the element of "men's rea" must be shown to exist.
The victim must file an FIR at the first place to the nearest police station against the culprit. If no action is taken, then the victim can move to file a criminal complaint.
