Make My Trip - Hotel booking cancellation refund not possible

I had booked a room at Hotel Mountview, Chandigarh for * days from *nd to *th of July ****, to attend a medical conference through Make my trip. In view of the prevailing situation, the conference is cancelled. Therefore i want to cancel my booking at the hotel. Make my trip is refusing to give even a rupee of refund back. Why am i being charged for a service that i am unable to use for a reason that is not created by me. I can understand a part of the booking amount being retained , but retaining ***% of the booking amount, That too i had paid the entire amount, is nothing but taking advantage of the helplessness of customers like me during a difficult time.
