facebook marketplace whatsapp - Online fraud

Abhijit Chatterjee filed complaint against facebook marketplace whatsapp on Jul 19, 2021

I was looking for a *nd hand Note ** plus in facebook marketplace and sent message to couple of sellers. After few days, one of them messaged me back on whatsapp saying that he has a Note ** plus and I had messaged him for it. We negotiated and then he told me that he is based in Goa and is a doctor by profession. Initially I refused to entertain thinking why to take hassle of courier delivery since there is no guarantee it will be delivered. However, the seller sounded genuine and I agreed thinking he is a doctor. Paid Rs.*** initially for courier charge, then he demanded Rs.**** for booking charge. After that he shared a picture of EMS receipt. It was agreed that once the item is delivered, I will pay the balance amount. Next day, I got sms from ******** number saying that my Speedpost is in Bangalore Airport GPO and also got a call from Speedpost insurance department (**********) to confirm the delivery. The moment I got off the call, the seller messaged me that since the package has reached Bangalore, pay me the balance citing the reason that his wife is angry (whatsapp chat attached). Finally after lot of discussions, I agreed to pay Rs.**K and balance upon delivery. He agreed initially, however the moment he got the money he started pressuring me for the balance amount stating that he will stop the parcel if I did not pay. Since, I had got confirmation from post office (which I thought was genuine at the time) I agreed and paid him the balance. However he still went ahead and stopped the shipment (as per the fake message). After that he started demanding Rs.**** more stating that I have by mistake shipped extra items with the package which was not agreed, hence you pay Rs.**** extra as security charge. I refused flat and started digging into the entire incident. Here are my findings.
*. He is a fraud, there is no real person called Anurag Sharma in Apollo Panaji
*. There is no Apollo hospital in Panaji
*. The photo of the bill for the phone he had shared, contains lots of fraudulent information.
*a. GST number of the seller is assigned to SBI
*b. The phone number of the store as per the bill is
the same one used for UPI of the seller
*c. The bank account mentioned in the bill of the
mobile store was the same bank account
shared to me by the seller as his personal
account
*d. The address mentioned for the mobile shop as
well as the seller are fake. There is no such
place or road in Goa
*e. The number from which the speedpost sms
comes, is a fraud number
*f. The seller/fraud has printed fake EMS/Bluedart
shipment receipts and shares the same with
victims
I do not know if I will be able to recover my money (I will definitely try to take help of police and other sources) but I wanted to post it here to make others aware of how some fraudsters are looting people and even educated morons like me fall in their trap.
