Appario Retail Private Limited Amazon seller - Misleading advertisement
Vaidyanathan Sundaresan filed complaint against Appario Retail Private Limited Amazon seller on Dec 7, 2023
This is a plain case of cheating/fraud by Amazon and its sellers, exploiting the constraints the consumer faces in online shopping. On **nd October ****, I had ordered online, on Amazon India, a Seagate Expansion *TB drive for purposes of data backup from my laptop and to use as an external storage device. The product got delivered on **th October and, to my astonishment, it looked much bulkier than what the photos on the website had shown. It is like a big transistor we used to have in the yesteryears! More importantly, I was shocked to learn that it needs to be plugged into an AC power supply all the time to use it. THIS IS COMPLETELY VEILED IN THE PHOTOS AS WELL AS PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ON AMAZON APP/website. And, I had no idea at all that "externally powered disks" are also there in the market as the ones I had used so far were all stand-alone, i.e., they just need to be plugged into the computer and they will work.
The moment power goes, this device stops working and, if a data backup is going on, it will be stopped and you have to start all over again after power comes! UPS doesn't solve the problem as the device stops functioning immediately, even before the switch to UPS happens. Data transfer/backups, as you know, is a time-consuming process and such interruptions are serious waste of time and electricity. So, on the day of arrival of the product (**th Oct), I raised a request with Amazon to take a return of the product and refund the amount paid (replacement wouldn't solve the problem as the product, by design, needs external power supply always). I have been fighting with them since then but they only give lame excuses (the latest one being "we are not the seller/manufacturer but only an intermediary"...!!).
This is a bane of online shopping nowadays! If only I had seen this product in a shop, I certainly would not have bought it, given its size and need for external power supply. Due to time and travel constraints, I had to order online, where I was duped into buying this. I seek your help in redressing my grievance. I am in the helpless situation of a customer who has been cheated by the company, lost around Rs. ****/-. Now, I am saddled with a product which is useless for me. My reasons for claiming this is a fraud by the seller are that the photos and description mislead one to believe (*) it is a stand alone USB drive without requiring any external power supply, and (*)it is portable (whereas it is not, since it needs a plug point always).
The exact name of the product on Amazon website: Seagate Expansion *TB Desktop External HDD - USB *.* for Windows and Mac with * yr Data Recovery Services, Portable Hard Drive (STKP*******)
Am attaching some photos from their website as well as product packaging ("Document *") and how the product actually needs to be set up on the ground ("Document *"). If you need any more information, I will be happy to provide the same as well. Thank you.
