Bengal Institute Of Business Studies (bibs) - Admission to BIBS withdrawn the next day got no refund

My ward Pratik Banik got admitted in Bengal Institute of Business Studies (BIBS) Kolkata for pursuing * years MBA program on Friday, **st June ****. We changed our mind not to continue there during the week-end due to some personal family oriented reasons and approached the college for withdrawal of his admission on **th June (Monday) & to refund our paid fees (One lakh fifty thousand) after deduction of some penalty as might be applicable in such a situation.

Our contact person at BIBS was Mr. Saqib Ahmed Kanji, Head – Business Strategy through whom the admission was processed. He didn’t acknowledge our request letter for withdrawal, but called us after about two weeks to inform that the management didn’t agree to reverse the admission process and refund any amount.

We feel this is a despotic act and are trying to draw the attention of some authorities who can evaluate the situation in order to restore justice, but don’t know who to approach for this- hence this endeavour. If you feel you have got no hands to sort this out, please advise in case you do know someone who can help us in this situation.

It is possible that some people might change their mind under certain circumstances and there could be some penalty that need to be paid for that, but is it fair to get the whole amount (*.* lakhs) confiscated for such a lapse?

It is obvious that they are guilty conscious and that is why do not want to keep any records of this request for withdrawal in any form, physical or electronic. Our admission related documents are also sent along with this for verification.

Mr Saqib mentioned that the fees are non-refundable which is written in the receipt, but can this be written and applied in all situations indiscriminately? His second point was that the student has already been registered with the University (Vidyasagar University, Midnapur who this institution is affiliated to)- this is also unlikely because we have never submitted complete documentation for that and also there was no working day left in between our admission and request for withdrawal.

Considering all the above facts and figures, any conscientious individual would realize the truth and if it is within his/her jurisdiction, would see that justice should prevail.

I am appealing for help indiscriminately with the hope that some angel would intervene…
