Malabar Hospital - Negligence by the hospital

This is to bring to your notice regarding a very harrowing experience my mother went through due to sheer negligence by a prominent hospital Malabar Hospital, Palakkad, Kerala. Due to the irresponsibility of the Hospital authorities/Doctors lead to months-long hospital treatment which left a lifelong pain to my mother.

My mother who met with a fire accident got admitted immediately in Malabar hospital. She was admitted for almost ** days as doctors were mentioned that this is a minor accident and will be cured within one week. We have noticed the condition of the hospital was pathetic with unhygienic situations which we immediately reported them but with not much help from the authorities.
We were told that she will be discharged within one week as the accident was minor with only * % burns but the same was dragged till ** days as they advised to extend the stay till the injuries get cured completely. So we agreed as we blindly trusted the Dr Lordson who was taking care of my mother on a regular basis. But to our surprise we came to know the day before the discharge date, the Dr Lordson was asked to leave the hospital immediately which evoked real anxiety in us. But little we knew that this was just a beginning of disappointments we are going to face as the one night before the date of discharge they have suddenly asked us to shift to another hospital in midnight.
While we enquired the reason the entire staffs/management was not ready to give any proper explanation and after a lot of follow up they told that they are not specialised in burn treatment as they don’t have enough facilities for any further treatment to in case of elevation in her medical condition. When we checked why the same was not informed then they were not able to give any satisfactory reply and were insisting us to shift immediately. Later after our request, they agreed to shift her in the morning but were not ready to provide ambulance which clearly exposed their low-level humanitarian approach towards their patients. Since the doctor who treated was asked to leave immediately from the hospital caused more confusion as no one is ready to communicate on the situation. We also understood that this was as per the instruction from the senior surgeon Dr Sridhararan. Incidentally, Dr Sridharan visited my mother post the old Doctor Dr Lordson’s exit and promised her that she can be discharged the next day as she was completely cured. Such an Unprofessional/irresponsible behaviour from such a senior doctor is not acceptable and licence of such insensitive doctors should be cancelled on immediate effect.
After all this stressful/painful time with Malabar hospital we have reached Jubilee Mission hospital in Thrissur. She was examined by the doctors immediately after our arrival. After the examination, we were shocked to know that the initial investigation report given by Malabar hospital was incorrect and their treatment was totally improper.
As per the initial report of Malabar hospital, the burn was *% but when Mission Hospital gave the report we were startled to understand that the burn was above **% which is very critical. Also, her situation becomes worst due to infection spread across her burn injuries. She was admitted immediately followed by a series of surgeries in the next one month to clean her injuries along with they conducted plastic surgery. The doctor informed us that this could have been avoided if Malabar hospital proactively shifted her to Mission hospital on the day of the accident. If there is no burn ward then as per process the particular hospital should recommend immediately to take the patient to the equipped hospital.
At last, she was discharged on but she still needs to have a regular checkup with the doctor for the next few months. It’s been two months since she met with the accident and till now she is not recovered completely due to the negligence of Malabar Hospital authorities/staffs.
My mother has gone through total mental/physical/medical torture only because of the fault of one major hospital and their famous doctors. Apart from her situation, the entire treatment cost us close to * lakhs and above all this, my mother’s mental situation is deteriorated due to this entire state of affairs. We request you to take proper action against the hospital for their inhuman and incapable approach towards the patient. Also, we need compensation for all the trauma gone through by my mother and the monetary loss incurred to us in the last two months towards all the treatment expenses.
Such experience should be not repeated to any individual in future and no hospital should treat any patient as a commodity. We humbly request you look into this on priority and take appropriate action accordingly.
