Outdo Interiors Private Limited - Interior work not done in time as specified in agreement
Sandeep Rathore filed complaint against Outdo Interiors Private Limited on Nov 6, 2023
OutDo Interiors
I got the contact of OutDo Interiors Pvt Ltd from my friend and I approached them for the interior work of my flat. They visited my flat on **th July and after understanding my requirements and some basic measurements, they created a tentative quote. They asked me to pay *% (INR *****) of the overall quote amount to proceed further. As my friend was also getting his interior done from them, I paid and asked to proceed with further steps.
On the **th of July, I had a virtual connection with the designer assigned to my flat. We discussed the requirements in more detail and she started the design process. Over a period of a month and of half, we meet in person and on call to refine the designs. In between, I mentioned that I might get possession by **th Aug and hope to move in by *st Oct. The designer told me that it will take * months to complete the interior work post finalization of the designs and validation (According to the process of OutDo, after the designs are finalized, they come to the site (flat) and validate the designs (measurements) against the actual flat dimensions just to be sure if it’s feasible or not).
On **th Aug, the OutDo team came to the flat to do the validation and I handed over a set of keys to the flat to them. After making some changes in designs post validation, I paid a sum of INR ****** (overall **% of the revised estimate including the *% paid earlier) on the **th night. As per the agreement, the complete interior work should have been done in ** days post the payment of **% of the total amount that I paid on the **th night.
Work in my flat started soon (*rd Sept). I kept a close watch and kept highlighting that I needed the flat to be ready by **th Oct. The OutDo team kept on giving me assurance that everything was on track and the flat would be ready by **th Oct or even earlier. I kept chasing them as there were delays but they kept on assuring me that it was on track. I had to vacate the flat I was renting and I planned to vacate it on **th Oct as OutDo promised to deliver my new flat by then.
On **th Oct, some materials required for on-site carpentry work were delivered. On the **th I received the call stating that the laminate I had selected from their catalog for the master bedroom bed and side table is not available. I didn’t have enough time to argue or go and select new laminates. So I gave them go go-ahead to use the laminates I selected for other areas (kitchen). And this was just the beginning of what was to come. Also, there were some other changes that had to be done. I was cautious about the time and also offered to pay in advance so the work wouldn’t stop.
On **th Oct, factory finish materials were delivered and their account team asked me to pay the rest of **% of the estimated cost as per their process. However, as per my discussion with the designer, the changes discussed were not taken into account and the revised estimate was pending from their end. I offered to pay *.* lakh on **th Oct and asked for a tentative remaining amount. It was agreed in principle that I can pay the rest once they share the revised estimates. I never received the revised estimate showing all the details. Only the amount was deducted and added based on the changes and calculation was done (on a calculator or some sheet but not on their site). An important point to note here is that they asked for the last **% of the payment stating that the materials are delivered at the site. However, only partial materials were delivered. When I enquired, they said that the glass material, sofa, and headboard would be delivered in the last * days of finishing to avoid damages and cleaning. Till now, there are materials that are pending.
On ** Oct, I made the final payment. However, I was sure that the work was not going to be finished by **th Oct. I asked them to at least finish the Master bedroom and kitchen so I could stay at the flat. They said okay but when I shifted on **th Oct, I found that the paint work was ongoing in the master bedroom and only essential lighting was done. The headboard was missing, the electric board on the left side of the bed was open, and not all switches were working. Also, the kitchen wasn’t ready. I was told to wait one more day and I had to stay at my friend's home nearby. Nothing much changed on **th Oct. They finished the paint did some cleaning and left. I asked them when I expected the complete work to be done. They kept on saying only minor work was pending and would finish in a couple of days.
I shared with them the list of pending items on the **th afternoon and asked for the date for each item. However, they asked me to wait till the next morning to provide the dates. I received the finish dates for pending items on the **th morning. The last date mentioned on it was *th Nov. To my surprise, no work was carried out for * days. Eventually, most of those timelines were not adhered to as well. There are still pending items, issues with alignments of the units, paint work is pending in some areas, etc. No quality check has been performed and when I pointed out the mistakes they were asked why I didn’t notice it earlier when it was getting fixed.
They were well aware of the fact that I have a *-month-old daughter. I had to stay at a house where there was drilling and cutting work going on, the paint was not completely dry and most of the things were not ready for use all while having my daughter in arms. My kid, wife, and I got sick as well on **th Oct. I am not sure of the reason but I believe the dust, and fumes from the paint must have played some part. I need help to get compensation for going through the agony and mental stress.
