Piyush Singh filed complaint against Bajaj auto on Dec 4, 2021
My bike’s (**** Dominar ***) headlights were not working, so I bought it to Bajaj’s service center. Upon inspection they found damage on headlight wires, due to wires were not passing current and headlight stopped working.
They said I had cut and spliced the wires myself or I hired a third-party mechanic who has damaged the wires. I replied that the headlights or the front end of the vehicle was never opened in the past.
To me the damage looks like heat damage. I think the wires were touching something hot inside and insulation melted causing naked wires to touch and short circuit. As evident by the heat resistant taping of the main harness of the bike, I suspect that the environment inside the headlight assembly can get pretty hot and uncovered wire insulation can melt.
When I mentioned this to service guys, they dismissed it completely and remained adamant on their cut & splice theory. They said leave the bike in the service center and they’ll reach out to the company. So, I left my bike and got home.
I raised the customer service complaint on the Bajaj’s website by email, the same service center manager has now changed his stance. They were not even saying I had intentionally cut the wires, instead they said, that my warranty is void because I had installed non-recommended accessories on my bike, and these accessories “chipped” the wires.
I have fitted an OBD* scanner on the OBD port of the bike, this scanner only monitors the bike’s health and does not alter the bike in any way.
I have also installed a third-party phone charger-stand combo on my handlebars and it directly connects to battery with a **A fuse, and no modifications to wiring harness were made.
However, these accessories were fitted by prior information to the service center guys of dealership, where I bought my bike from. They did not mention and warranty would be void.
Besides, in the Owner’s manual, there’s not single line that mentions my warranty would be void in case of the fitment of non-recommended accessories. It says the “warranty is NOT applicable to: if additional electrical accessories such as-remote, bigger horn, musical brake light etc. fitted on vehicle”
To me this means, that Bajaj would not provide warranty to said electrical accessories, there would not be any affect on the complete warranty of the bike.
The fitment of these accessories cannot be the root cause of the wire damage, as both accessories only pulls hardly **W when charging, and wires does not looks, they had damaged from overcurrent, the damage is one sided, which means they were touching something hot inside.
As per my opinion, this damage poor quality control, or design defect as, there is no protective taping of the damaged wire end, while other wires inside has it.
I think Bajaj need to replace the whole headlight assembly (as they do not sell individual LED bulbs or wires), which they sell for Rs **,***, under warranty free of charge, as the defect arising is a design defect and they do not mention the “non-recommend accessories means warranty void” in the Owner’s manual.

Many thanks for your proactive approach and prompt action. This has accelerated and helped in resolving my issue.
