Sub: Refusal of British Airways to board the plane at Mumbai


*) I did the booking of British Airways on **/*/**** to India and return.


*) No Visa documents were asked. I found it bit strange but did not doubt since AP document issued by USA is universally recognized by most of the Airlines which I know of. It is more prominent document to H*b since it is step ahead towards Green card/ PR etc. And so why UK alone shall object who are also close allies of USA.

*) I was to travel on ****** pm from Chicago - UK-India but there BA did not allow me to board the plane but did some alternate arrangement (thru xxxAirways) at their cost. But it was equally a very tiring and frustrating journey since I was travelling with my two pupil (* yrs. old) and (** months) and both were US citizens by birth.

*) However, since it was home coming after *.* years, I kept that unfortunate incidence/ hassles behind.

*) However, going by the unpleasant experience while coming to India, as a precautionary measure I talked to their customer support in late Jun ** for ** minutes but BAs executive could not really help but just closed my query saying Check in counter of BA has more discretion/powers and hence they would take a suitable decision on return date.


*) I proceeded to return to USA per schedule on August *:** am but my surprise BA not only refused us (including my wife and * children) to board the Plane but point blank refused to make any alternate arrangement.
*) BA knows my Return booking. They also made alternate arrangement so they are well aware about my return Journey itself and could have advised next day when I landed in India , But their caring Customer Support did not find it important .


Hence, I have * nagging querys here:

a) AP document is widely accepted by most of the airlines which I know of, so when BA does not approve that valid VISA document, they should have been more specific / conspicuous putting a condition while booking and they should have refused the booking then and there itself.

b) Secondly BA seems to be so process and policy driven, how they can be so inconsistent that while coming to India they did the alternate arrangement for us but not while returning to USA.

c) Why do they allow booking when they are not too sure of providing
Requisite services.



I, therefore, strongly feel that my claim is quite legitimate, and BA should ethically make the alternate arrangement or give me the full refund of my return Ticket.
