We had booked * economy tickets from Mumbai to Auckland (hopping flight via singapore and australia) at cost of Rs. *.** lakhs. Departure on *rd March ****, return on *rd April. Ticket was by Qantas and Mumbai Singapore leg is operated by Jet airways under codeshare.
After booking the ticket, makemytrip's visa expert sent us a mail asking us to get New zealand visa for the trip and sent forms as well. There is no mention of transit visa in the mail.
The itenary and app does show to check for transit visa requirements but the same is not confirmed. It says, 'may require transit visa, please check conditions'.
When I checked the website for transit visa details, I found the following link which mentioned that if I have a Indian passport and am travelling out within * hours to third country with visa, then I am exempt :

Due to above conditions, we applied only for the New zealand visa as per forms sent by them.
Later in Mumbai we were not informed by Jet Airways staff (during check in) of the requirement either. Due to this, the boarding pass was issued and we travelled to Singapore after which we were deplaned due to transit visa requirement for australia.
Qantas says makemytrip as our travel agent is responsible for informing us about transit Visa requirement which has not been done clearly by them.
Due to the above scenario, we had to book tickets worth Rs. * lakh from Singapore to Auckland and back to Mumbai separately. Additionally more than Rs. ***** was spent on mobile bills due to calling India and New zealand to sort the situation.
We have been following up with makemytrip since March *st week but till date they havent been able to show where transit visa requirement was communicated to us. Also they have recently said they can consider only the ticket amount paid to them i.e Rs. *.** lakhs and that too is escalated as of now but no communication since * weeks. The loss of Rs. *.* lakhs is much more than the ticket amount.
We want to claim the Rs. *.* lakhs loss and Rs. * lakh for mental agony.
