Pepper Fry: A Frying Experience
The recent experience I have had with Pepper Fry (Order Num: *********) has been simply devastating, to say the least. I had ordered a computer table and a queen size cot for my new home. As per Pepper Fry, they don't do the assembly in my place; so I had to arrange that on my own.
The cot arrived in four packaged pieces all wrapped, with no visible evidence of any damage. The computer table was to arrive along with this, but was informed it would take a few more days. So I decided to wait for that to come before calling an experienced person with required tools to assemble them. The computer table arrival was unduly delayed and arrived almost over two weeks after the cot, despite my near daily phone calls for follow up. On a saturday afternoon when the computer table arrived, I informed the assembling person and he arrived on the very next day.
After removing the cardboard boxes of the cot items, what he found was indeed surprising. Two wooden pieces - one at the foot side of the cot and the other at the middle of the cot had cracks right through the ply thickness; it was holding on just because of the lamination on the surface. There were two such cracks in one piece and one in the other. Disgusting! There is no damage seen on the lamination at this location, but it is clearly on the inner plywood. This clearly points to the fact that a cracked and damaged plywood sheets have been silently laminated and sent as a consignment. A clear case of raw material defect and improper checking - faulty workmanship. These are load carrying items in a cot and just cannot be assembled. So my cot continues to 'rest in pieces' leaning on the side walls of my room; occupying space but providing no utility.
I approached Pepper Fry person for a solution by replacing the broken ones. The first line person said his hands are tied as it is beyond him, as the consignment had come over seven days back (which is sacrosanct); for whatever be the genuine concerns and situation of the customer. At least he was polite. After ** hours, the matter was escalated to senior management. But their response (mostly no listening) also was the same mantra - late complaint. There was a provision for raising grievance on the website, and I used that as the third option. This time the response was identical; but much ruder.
There can be no such time frames for such atrociously bad workmanship. The computer table was also a disaster, as its legs would part, when a weight is kept over that, due to faulty dowel pin type of joining.
I can't continue to hold the floor space in my home with a cot leaning on the walls. What do I do?
