Electronic Commerce or E-Commerce refers to the buying and selling of products or services on online portals such as the Internet. E- Commerce sales have skyrocketed in the last decade as it is considered to be best, most effective platform for buying and selling online. Online shopping sites such Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, Myntra, Ebay are common examples. It is also customer friendly as the consumer can sit at home and browse through various products and purchase the product which he deems appropriate. So far more than 1 lac e-commerce websites have already been registered in India. However, not all that glitters is gold. It is shocking to note that more than 20% of the total E-commerce sites are fraud/fake as they try to lure money from consumers by offering them whooping discounts. It is important to be aware of these websites. E- Commerce frauds/crimes are quite prevalent in India. The most common types of E-commerce frauds include Gift Card Fraud, asking for Card details, product not delivered, offering job abroad etc. Most of the non-existing E-commerce sites will offer insane discounts such as 80% or even 90% which then catches the eye of the consumer. Many fraud E-commerce sites also claim that you have won a gift card and on purchasing something from their website you will get Car or a huge TV in return. It is important to be aware of these fradulent websites and not be lured away by their trap. It is equally important to first read the review of the E-Commerce website that you are willing to purchase from. Also, no trustworthy E-commerce website will ever call you to ask for Card details, because if they do, it is likely a fraud. Thereby one should be careful of all these things and should purchase only from the well known sites. However, what should be done if somehow even these well known online shopping websites have made a mistake and are unwilling to refund or replace the product. First and foremost you should try to raise the complaint at their portal itself as they value the customers feedback so they would be willing to help them resolve the complaint.
